Bombers went on the road for the first time ever to take on Whiting Oilers and 40 MPH winds and rain off Lake Michigan and came away with the come from behind victory. Bombers were down 22-7 at halftime and were down 22-13 with 4 mins to go, but they were not going to be denied as ALL THREE PHASES showed up big in the last 4 mins of the game. Bombers offense was stopped at the 1 yard line with about 6 mis to go, but the defense who gave up 22 points and 230 yards of rushing in the first half only allowed 1 First Down in the 2nd half and after they pinned Whiting deep, the PUNT RETURN team got into action with a blocked punt that landed in John Yallaly hands which he returned 12 yards for a touchdown to make it 22-19, the 2 point was unsuccessful. With 40 to 50 miles per hour wind in the Bombers faces the entire 4th quarter, the kickoff team attempted an onside kick, that was recovered by Whiting. but the Defense did what they did all 2nd half and shut them down right away and forced another punt, and the wind again played a factor causing the punter to drop the ball and attempt to just kick it from the ground and go out of bounds where the offense took over under 2 mins to go at midfield and 2 timeouts. Beck Drone then had to carve up the WIND as he completed passes to Luke Belden and Rashad Claybon to get the team inside the 20. A couple of Josh Johns runs got the ball inside the 10 with under a minute to go and that is when Drone once again found Kale Stokes in the end zone on a ball that moved 5 to 6 yards in the air from the wind to find Stokes awaiting hands, the 2pt was good, another throw and catch by Drone to Stokes and the team went up 27-22 where the final score came to rest. The lone score for the Bombers was a 20 yard QB run by Beck Drone. Sophomore Josh Johns had an OUTSTANDING night running TOUGH yards into a defense with 11 guys in the box as the wind was such a factor neither team could feel comfortable most of the game throwing the ball. Johns had 28 carries and 153 yards and a touchdown down in the 3rd quarter. Yallaly was able to get 1 PAT across the bar in the 1st half. Stokes 3 catches netted him 37 yards, and Claybon's huge 4th down catch was for 16 yards and Belden's was for 7 yards. Bombers finish regular season 7-2 and will go on the road to Lake Station in round 1 of Sectionals next week.
